Arthritis & Aquatic Center
A better way to treat many orthopedic and neurologic disorders.
If you suffer with an orthopedic condition such as osteoarthritis, or a neurologic condition such as a balance or vestibular disorder, then you probably know the pain, inflammation and uncertainty that often accompany these problems. Past treatment options have been limited. But a relatively new form of therapy is helping those with osteoarthritis and balance disorders feel better, move better and manage their pain.
Hydrotherapy, also known as aquatic or water therapy, is giving millions of patients a new lease on life. They are returning to their daily activities thanks to ReQuest Physical Therapy and Gainesville Health & Fitness Centers’ Aquatic Center. With a variety of specially designed pools and varying temperatures, ReQuest therapists are providing therapeutic, personalized exercise solutions for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, neurologic disorders and low back pain.
Assisted by the Arthritis Foundation, the program offers low-impact aerobic conditioning, rehabilitative care from ReQuest Physical Therapy and educational programs for people who cannot perform land-based rehab activities. Aquatic therapy allows mobility where land-based activities may not. By providing a buoyant, supportive environment to enhance balance, movement and transitions, aquatic therapy helps many patients transfer back to land-based activities.
Water provides a safe, comforting, relaxed environment for gentle aerobic exercise. But hydrotherapy involves much more than simply water aerobics. ReQuest’s aquatic therapy team is specially trained to work with orthopedic and arthritis patients and offers specific exercise protocols for increasing strength, stamina and flexibility among neurologic patients.
We can increase range of motion, mobility, overall conditioning and ability to function in daily living. Where there was once only pain, dependence and dysfunction, there can be less pain, independence and a joyful return to the activities of daily living. There can be less stiffness in your joints and more energy and stamina in your life. Hydrotherapy is more than just hope. It’s a clinically proven, safe, effective approach for treating arthritis and other conditions that affect human muscles, bones and joints.
